DOTA 2 WEEKLY RECAP : OCTOBER 17th 2023
We can all agree that this week in Dota 2 has been all about The International 2023. We have seen major upsets, wins, and a wild start to TI.
This past week has proven to be quite the big W for Dota 2 and its fans.
Enough rambling, let’s get into it!
THE INTERNATIONAL 2023
GROUP STAGE PRODUCTION
With all the backlash and hate Dota 2 has received over the last couple of weeks regarding The International 2023 there is one thing the Dota 2 community praised, and that is the production of the event so far.
Almost all Dota 2 tournaments since the end of 2022 have battled with production issues, making the broadcasts unwatchable at times. With The International 2023’s prize pool dropping below levels last seen at TI5, many people in the Dota 2 community expected this year’s The International 2023 production to be the same.
During the group stages of TI12, the production didn’t experience any notable technical issues. Everything was smooth as can be.
along side an exceptional broadcasting team it has made the experience that much better.

We will not be making our own predictions but take a glimpse of what the public has to say!

It doesn’t get more one sided than this. Team Spirit, who topped Group A, are the favourites after winning both DreamLeague Season 21 and Riyadh Masters.
PREDICTION: Team Spirit 2-0 Virtus Pro.

Western Europe remains the dominant region for competitive Dota. Team Liquid reached the podium twice this year at Dota 2 Majors.

LGD is currently in peak season. They surprised the community after topping Group C, taking down the favourites of Gaimin Gladiators in the process.

Nouns vs Azure Ray.
As the underdog match out of the four upper-bracket matches, not many people expected these two teams to make it out of the group stages in 3rd

THE INTERNATIONAL 2023 PRIZE POOL UPDATE
At the time of writing The International 2023 Prize Pool stands at $3,041,946.
TI12 will use a slightly different distribution percentage compared to previous years and pay out every team attending this year’s event, including teams eliminated in last place.
First place will take home a share of 45% of the total prize pool, followed by 12% for second place and 8% for third.
Unfortunately, while there are 20 teams taking a piece of the prize pool, the TI12 prize pool continues to flatline. It took the prize pool over 17 days to reach the $3million mark and is more than $5million behind where TI5 was in a similar timeframe. At this pace, The International 2023 won’t even see $10million by the end and would be the first time a TI has not surpassed the $10million mark in over a decade.
